Welcome to Our Site

Feline Wellness

We are proud to provide you with complete preventative medical programs!

Indoor vs. Outdoor: Infectious disease aside, the development of systemic diseases in a feline friend is based on age and predisposition. Whether your cat is young or old, lives inside or outsides/he depends on proper care based on preventative screening.  Our goal is to catch problems early--giving a pet the best chance at a healthier, more comfortable & longer life, while giving owners more peace of mind! At the same time we are trying to decrease the expense of medicine for pet-owners by reducing the frequency of costly health conditions, that if left unnoticed, could otherwise require surgeries or long term treatments. Wellness is a wise investment!
Bonuses & Rewards: Wellness Patients receive free vaccinations, 30% off of examination fees throughout the year, $2.00 off per night when boarding, spay/neuter discounts, and many other discounted services!

Components of our Feline Wellness Program

Physical Exam: The physical exam is important because it is the first step in diagnosing illnesses or structural problems. This is done by close scrutiny of all of the visible systems from the nose to the perianal area. A Veterinarian is as qualified as any human doctor, to detect abnormalities that may not be apparent to the owner. Our medical training allows us to diagnose abnormalities. For example: feeling for abnormal abdominal structures such as congenital hernias, listening each year to the heart and lungs and comparing current sounds to the previous year, and examining the eyes and ears for discharge or breed differences that may reveal issues as your pet ages.

Urinalysis:
A urinalysis is a method to screen the bladder, kidney, liver, and pancreas. This is done with wellness pets of all ages! At Highland, we have the advantage of using a finely tuned, objective machine to perform this test, thereby eliminating human error!

Fecal Exam: A fecal exam is performed to check for intestinal parasites, microscopic protozoa, and occult blood. May parasites, particularly protozoan parasites, are not prevented through traditional "wormers" and most parasites can't be seen without the aid of the microscope. Parasites affect your pet's health, and can put your family at risk in some cases!

For Geriatric Pets (Dogs and Cats Older than 7yrs of Age): Depending on the age of your pet, blood tests are tailored to help 1.) establish base line measurements for easing diagnosis in a healthy pet's future, as well as 2.) aid in diagnosing any present internal problems before they show external symptoms and 3.) reveal parameters of particular importance in dogs that already suffer from known diseases or are taking pharmaceuticals. The blood chemistry included in the geriatric wellness measure a variety of chemical levels, including: SGPT, ALT, BUN, Creatinine, Glucose, Total Protein, and Electrolytes. Think of this chemistry as puzzle pieces used to "check up" on your pet's internal organs by working together to provide a full picture! The CBC (complete blood count) helps to check for disorders such as anemia, infections, blood clotting diseases, etc. by measuring the constituents and cellular quality of blood.

***The basic screen Includes BUN, ALKP, SGPT/ALT, Glucose, Total Protein, and CBC.  After the exam, your cat's veterinarian will discuss the specific tests based on individual needs--i.e. patient history, or symptoms of feline hyperthyroidism may warrant the addition of a single test, called a T4, that can provide a diagnosis and intervention to keep your pet's health from declining significantly. Hence the gap between $34.50 & $70.50.  However, the T4 is not considered a requirement for participation in the wellness program.
